What is the Future Vision Foundation?

Future Vision Foundation is a not-for profit organization. Its mission is to inspire innovative vision research and celebrate breakthrough vision advances through powerful documentaries of discovery, impact, and hope.


Who created the Foundation?

The Foundation was co-created by Jennifer Deutsch, Chief Marketing Officer at Park Place Technologies and Dr. Suber Huang, a world-renowned Ophthalmologist who has pioneered surgical procedures that have restored vision to patients who lost vision. They joined forces to spread the word on how medical innovations can change lives and improve the quality of life for those with medical issues. They are telling the story of medical innovation through the power of film. Suber and Jennifer began their collaboration in February 2017 following the death of Jennifer’s father, Dr. Frederic Deutsch who was a globally recognized Ophthalmologist known for medical and surgical innovations.


What was the inspiration of this Foundation?

Dr. Huang produced an award winning short film, Seven Years of Darkness. Filmed and developed in Cleveland, this is the story of Dr. Anthony Easley’s emotional and courageous journey, from sight to blindness to sight again. Receiving innovative microincisional retina surgery techniques. The film is available on the Foundation’s website for viewing. (www.FutureVisionFound.org)


Are there similar Foundations in the community?

We are the first to partner the medical community and the film industry. 

We have the unique opportunity in Cleveland, Ohio to marry the strongest medical community in the country with the fastest growing film community, spear headed by the Future Vision Foundation and the Greater Cleveland Film Commission.


Who directs and produces the films?

The Foundation films will be licensed to awardees for unlimited use to increase awareness of clinical disease, to showcase innovative discovery, and to raise funds to support further research. The Foundation will retain ownership and copyright of films for use in Foundation activities, in national/international film fests, and to further raise awareness of breakthrough research.

The Board

Jennifer Deutsch - Board Chair and Co-Founder

  

Ms. Deutsch currently serves as the Chief Marketing Officer for Park Place Technologies, the largest global provider of storage, server and networking hardware TPM, serving 9000 plus clients in 126 countries. Through her leadership, the Future Vision Foundation has partnered with KWT Global (NY) to develop a sustaining marketing and communication strategy for the Future Vision Foundation. Prior to joining Park Place Jennifer lead Marketing and Communications for Energy Focus (NASDAQ: EFOI). Jennifer has a long history in marketing with a unique blend of client side and agency side experience. Jennifer was co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of Antidote 360, a healthcare communications agency powered by MDC Partners (NASDAQ: MDCA). Jennifer oversaw day-to-day operations of Antidote 360 and lead new business development and client relations. Additionally, Jennifer served as EVP, General Manager of the Doner Cleveland and Columbus offices, where she built a robust healthcare practice and grew the retail and home centers of excellence. In late 2014 Jennifer was asked by MDC to be the CMO of Gabriella’s Kitchen, makers of skinny pasta TM. Jennifer drove the global launch of skinny pasta and debuted the product at the Vatican, serving skinny pasta to the Pope.

Jennifer has a unique skill at “operationalizing the brand,” taking it out of the abstract and exploding it out beyond the confines of the marketing department, into the whole of the organization. Her extensive background in healthcare, hospitality and CPG includes working with: Sherwin-Williams, Things Remembered, GE Lighting, FirstEnergy, Apollo Endosurgery, Leidos Health, OhioHealth, Geisinger and Bristol-Myers Squibb. Jennifer is a recognized expert at creating, developing, shaping and launching brands internally as well as externally. She has adeptly managed marketing, sales and communication teams, setting a vision for her team and improving employee engagement. She has a keen eye for improving inefficiency and enhancing productivity, due in part to a background that includes client, agency and consultant perspectives.

Upon graduating from Columbia University, Jennifer began her career as a marketing strategist at Nestlé. While at Nestlé, Jennifer was on the Lean Cuisine launch team, first introducing Lean Cuisine in the United States then moving to Vevey, Switzerland to work on the European roll-out. Upon her return to the US Jennifer was asked to lead the Nestlé Ice Cream new venture team, where she developed and launched several global “blockbuster” products including the Nestlé Toll House Ice Cream Sandwich and Exploding Pops. After over a decade with Nestlé, Jennifer joined Renaissance Hotels & Resorts as VP of Marketing for the Americas. While at Renaissance she re-positioned the brand and developed an award-winning advertising campaign that is credited with driving brand awareness, occupancy and ‘rev-par’. When Renaissance was acquired by Marriott International Jennifer was asked to join the Marriott team as SVP, Global Brand Management. She is credited with developing the Marriott Portfolio Management System, re-positioning the Ritz-Carlton brand and launching the Bulgari Hotel and Resort brand.

Jennifer is an active community member and was recognized by Kaleidoscope Magazine as one of three women in Northeast Ohio who make a difference for all she does to make NEO a better place. She serves on the boards of the Greater Cleveland Film Commission, the Cognitive Health Institute and the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center and has been a guest lecturer at Case Western Reserve University’s Weatherhead School of Management for the past 27 years.

Jennifer is a frequent speaker on branding. Past speaking engagements include the keynote address at the PGA Women’s Summit, the Marriott General Manager Meeting, the Ritz-Carlton Sales and Marketing Meeting, the E&Y Entrepreneurship Conference the Virginia Governor’s Conference, the Florida Leadership Conference, the Nebraska Conference on Travel and Tourism as well as presenting speaker at the IACVB Conference (International Association of Convention and Visitors Bureau). 

A native of New Jersey, avid cyclist, gardener and proud mother of two well accomplished sons. Ms. Deutsch currently resides in Cleveland, Ohio.

Jonathan Bridge - Vice President 

Jon Bridge is the assistant headmaster for advancement at University School where he oversees the philanthropic life of the school, alumni relations, communications, and marketing. University School just completed a campaign where alumni, parents, and friends contributed more than $108 million, making it one of the largest independent day school campaigns in the country. Prior to University School, Jon had a 17-year tenure at his alma mater Denison University where he was senior development officer in major and planned giving and formerly director of their annual fund. He started his advancement career in 1985 at Riverdale Country School in New York City where he was director of alumni relations and oversaw communications.

Jon serves on the board of the Julie Billiard Network of Schools and is on the steering committee of the Independent School Leadership Group for the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education in Washington, DC. He also coaches squash at University School.



Jagdip Singh - Treasurer

Dr. Singh is AT&T Professor at the Weatherhead School and has an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering.  Dr. Singh is a recipient of John S. Diekhoff award for excellence in graduate teaching (CWRU), Excellence in Doctoral Teaching and Mentoring award (Weatherhead) and Weatherhead School’s Research Recognition Award for outstanding contributions to research.  Dr Singh has also received “Excellence in Reviewing” awards from the Journal of Marketing, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Retailing, and the Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management. Dr Singh currently serves on the Editorial Review Boards of the Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Service Research, Journal of Retailing, among others.  Dr Singh’s research publications span a range of disciplinary journals including Academy of Management Review, Management Science, Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Management Studies, Psychological Assessment, Journal of Marketing, Journal of the American Medical Association, Medical Care, and the Journal of Retailing.  Dr Singh has participated in seminars at leading international business schools in Australia, Brazil, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden.  Dr Singh is an active industry consultant with expertise in building organizational capabilities at the frontlines for interfacing with customers.  Dr Singh has also published a case study in collaboration with Indian Institute of Management, Ahemdabad titled, “Prayas by Sanofi-Aventis in India,” which received recognition in the 2011 EFMD case writing competition. 

Hearing a brief description of the Future Vision Foundation he immediately identified its signature mission as an “innovation catalyst.”



Brent Ballard- Secretary - 2018

Mr. Ballard serves as managing partner of Calfee Halter, overseeing its day-today management and executing its strategic initiatives.

In addition to his role as managing partner, Brent continues to counsel firm clients on real estate, general corporate, commercial business and finance law. He advises privately held businesses on matters of general real estate and corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, business financing, property acquisition, divestiture and development. He also works closely with both borrowers and lenders to facilitate business financings and capitalizations.

Brent serves as general counsel and advocate for his corporate and real estate clients, with an extensive background in general real estate and contracting matters; commercial transactions; joint ventures and strategic alliances; corporate structuring; and reorganizations. He facilitates private placements and oversees the necessary securities law compliance for clients ranging from start-up companies to larger, more mature businesses. He also deals with issues of valuation, management and control, and assists clients in buying and selling privately held enterprises.

Outside of the firm, Brent is active on the boards of several private companies and also serves on the board of trustees of the Greater Cleveland Partnership, Bluecoats, Inc., Playhouse Square Foundation and is President of The Union Club of Cleveland and the board of University School. Brent is a member of the Leadership Cleveland Class of 2003. He has been recognized as one of The Best Lawyers in America for 10 years in the areas of corporate and real estate law and is a member of the Society of Benchers and the Visiting Committee at Case Western Reserve University School of Law.He served as a consultant with the Management Advisory Services practice of Laventhol & Horwath in Chicago prior to joining Calfee in 1985. He became a partner in 1993 and was elected to the firm’s executive committee in 1999 and its management committee in 2002. He was elected managing partner in 2004.

Dinah Kolesar

Dinah Kolesar currently serves on the Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital Board. She is also an Honorary Life Trustee with the Rainbow Babies & Children’s Foundation with a 30-year track record of providing exemplary executive leadership and management consulting services to the healthcare industry. Previously, she served the Foundation in the capacity of Trustee from 2004 through 2016 and has held several key Board executive roles, including President. Dinah oversaw several key milestones during her tenure with the Foundation including the expansion of the successful Circle of Friends program, the establishment of the Associate Board, and orchestration of the Foundations largest gift ($32.5M) ever bestowed to the Hospital. Dinah has been a leader of nearly all RBC Foundation Board committees including Advocacy, Associate Board, Finance, Strategic Planning, Trustee, Development, Circle of Friends, and Rainbow Community Partners. Prior to joining Rainbow, Dinah was a Senior Manager in Deloitte Consulting’s Healthcare Life Sciences practice and a Utilization Review Manager for the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. She resides in Highland Heights, Ohio with her husband and two adult children.


  

James Pizzaro, MD

Dr. Pizarro is the Board representative to the Executive Artistic Directors committee comprised of Dr. Pizarro, Director Zac Cageo, and Director Michael Mannaseri. Dr. Pizzaro is Founder, Director, and Producer at Red Bicycle Media. Since 2002, RBM has produced award winning films which include these internationally recognized institutions. Some of his work, including those taken for Lear Jet Corporation, are arguably an industry best. He is a practicing physician specializing in Internal Medicine and is affiliated with University Hospitals.



Linda Stepan

Ms. Stepan is a partner in Brouse Mcdowell’s Labor and Employment Practice Group. She is an Ohio State Bar Association Certified Specialist in Worker’s Compensation Law. Her Experience includes representing Employers before the Ohio Industrial commission as well as state courts. Linda is a graduate of Cleveland State University, magna cum laude, (BA, 1992) and Cleveland Marshall College of Law, cum laude, (JD,1991). She was named an Ohio Super Lawyer 2013-2015. 



Harvey Kay

Presently involved with commercial real estate, multi-family housing industry and investments as the principal of Kay Brokerage & Consulting. Past President and major stockholder in United Mortgage Corp. In the securities business, Mr. Kay was Vice President of Ritz & Co., specializing in commodity brokerage. Other leadership and accomplishments include: Chairman of the Cuyahoga County Grand Jury Foremen’s Association; Certificate of Appreciation from the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s office; Appointed Real Estate Receiver on numerous occasions by the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court and Federal Court; and Chairman of the Community Advisory Committee to Big Brothers/ Big Sisters. He was honored by Big Brothers/big Sisters for individual service to children. Other positions include: Chairman for Christians & Jews’ initial building fund for the Washington Holocaust Museum, the Board of Trustees of the Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital and Co-Chair of the Executive Committee, Shaker Campus, member of the Cleveland Initiative Brain Health Council, Medical Affairs & Doctors Credentialing Committee of Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital, Case Western Reserve Community Think[box] Board and “Turnaround Management Association”. He is listed in the “Who’s Who of Executives & Business” and served as a legislative aide and liaison to the Ohio House of State Representatives and liaison to Kent State University. He attended Case Western Reserve University, Kent State, John Carroll and Community College, majored in Public Relations and Business and was a member of the tennis teams. 



Rozanne Oriella

Rozanne Oriella has a long history in the film-making industry. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Radio Television and Journalism from the University of Arizona and a bachelor’s degree from Loyola Marymount in Cinematography and Film/Video Production. Ms. Oriella has extensive experience primarily as a sound editor. She has worked in Hollywood as an assistant editor on 3 films, editor on five films, and recently produced Interstellar Civil War: Shadows of the Fallen (2017). Other films included Cyborg and Journey to the Center of the Earth (1998, 1999). Since 2008, she has worked as a real estate agent for ReMax Traditions. She owns family property in Tuscany,
